What to Expect at a Women-Only Salon in Saudi Arabia

What to Expect at a Women-Only Salon in Saudi Arabia

If you’ve never visited a women-only salon in Saudi Arabia before, you might have questions about what the experience involves, what’s expected of you, and what makes it different from a mixed or international salon. This guide, written for both first-time visitors and women new to Riyadh, walks you through exactly what to expect at Franck Provost Laysen Valley.

What “Women-Only” Actually Means

In Saudi Arabia, a women-only salon (or mshagel nisa’i) is a beauty salon that operates exclusively for female clients and employs exclusively female staff. There are no male visitors, no male stylists, and no shared spaces with men.

This is not simply a preference — for many women, it’s essential. A women-only environment allows clients to:

  • Remove their hijab or abaya during the appointment
  • Relax without self-consciousness
  • Discuss their hair and beauty needs openly
  • Receive full-service beauty treatments that would be impossible in a mixed environment

At Franck Provost Laysen Valley, our entire floor at Building 30 is women-only. The entrance, the styling area, the nail zone, and all staff areas are exclusively female.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Reception: You’ll be greeted at reception by a female team member who will confirm your appointment and offer you a welcome drink. First-time visitors are given a brief overview of the salon and the services they’ve booked.

Consultation: Before any service begins, your stylist will conduct a consultation. For hair services, this includes an assessment of your hair type, condition, and history (previous colour, chemical treatments, etc.). For nail services, your technician will examine your nails, discuss your preferred shape and colour, and advise on any nail health considerations.

Privacy during the service: Our styling stations are designed to provide a comfortable degree of separation from neighbouring clients. You’re welcome to bring a friend or family member to keep you company during your appointment.

No rush: We do not operate on a production-line schedule. Each appointment is given the time it needs. If your balayage takes 30 minutes longer than expected because the result requires it, we’ll take that time.

How to Make the Most of Your Visit

Book in advance. Walk-ins are welcome when space is available, but popular time slots — especially Thursday and Friday evenings — fill up quickly. Booking ahead ensures you get the stylist and time you want.

Communicate clearly. Bring photos of styles you like. Our stylists can work in Arabic and English. Don’t be shy about what you want — the more specific you are, the better the result.

Come prepared for colour services. If you’re having balayage or a full colour, plan for 2–4 hours. Wear a top you don’t mind getting colour on (we provide a gown, but it’s good practice anyway), and avoid wearing a polo neck or high-collar top on the day.

Ask about aftercare. After every service, your stylist will advise you on how to maintain the result at home. Take notes or ask for a written product recommendation — it makes a real difference.

Frequently Asked Questions from First-Time Visitors

Can I bring a child? Children are welcome in the salon with a supervising adult.

What languages do the staff speak? Our team speaks Arabic and English.

Can I pay by card? Yes — we accept credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, and cash in Saudi Riyal (SAR).

Can I watch my stylist’s technique? Of course. We encourage clients to engage with their stylists and ask questions throughout the appointment.

What if I’m not happy with the result? Please tell us immediately. We will always work with you to correct any issue before you leave.
